Two of the escalators at Bank Underground Station are currently being replaced as part of a wider London Underground (LU) escalator replacement programme.

Escalators “E4” and “E5” at Bank link the Northern Line platforms to the District & Circle Line platforms.

First installed in 1933 as MH types, they were replaced in 1995 with O&K RTHD-LUL2 types and subsequently heavily modified by TubeLines (part of the previous Private Public Partnership at LU) to become bespoke TLES-3 types in 2009 / 10.

16 years later, and with the degraded performance of these escalators becoming more apparent, they are now being replaced with Otis Heavy Duty-Metro 520 types as used extensively across the Elizabeth Line.
