Publication of BS EN 81-76:2025

BS EN 81-76, the new standard for evacuation lifts has been published by BSI. This is a complex standard which describes three different evacuation operations (at least one must be selected) and two different Classes (A and B) depending on the complexity of the building and application - so careful study is needed.
LEIA recognises that the implementation of a safe evacuation lift depends on the satisfactory integration of the evacuation lift into the building. This needs collaboration between those responsible for the lift and those responsible for other aspects (outside the lift) so LEIA are pleased to see the additional guidance in the National foreword of BS EN 81-76 and that this links to further guidance HERE.

LEIA looks forward to collaborating with others in the sector to develop guidance especially on building-related and interfacing issues needed for a new evacuation lift to BS EN 81-76.
