Otis Worldwide Corporation has announced it will install lifts on three vessels for the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy as part of the Fleet Solid Support (FSS) project. This will provide support ships designed to deliver munitions, supplies and provisions while at sea.

Otis will supply eight cargo lifts to each ship. The principal purpose of the lifts will be to move provisions and stores. Six of the lifts would be certified for ATEX Zone 2 (an area where an explosive atmosphere is a rare occurrence during normal operations), and the lifts will be fitted with watertight doors. The units will be prepared to be resistant to damage, regardless of the sea state.
