Lift Industry Newsletter
May 2026

LEIA have been responding to a number of government building safety consultations on behalf of the sector, including the Construction Products Reform White Paper.

They highlighted the robust regulatory framework already in place for lifts and escalators (supported by a comprehensive range of designated and other standards) and called for any future construction products regime to remain aligned with the EU Construction Product Regulation, which explicitly excludes lifts, escalators and their components.

In addition, the Government has a consultation on proportionality in building control and the categorisation of higher-risk building work. As this is relevant to members involved with lift work in existing higher-risk buildings (HRBs), LEIA will be submitting a response.

Help shape the future of lift and escalator qualifications!

LEIA is looking for people to join a small working party to review and modernise key NVQ qualifications across the sector, ensuring they reflect today’s technologies, working practices and industry needs.

The qualifications under review this year include:

• NVQ Level 3 Lift and Escalator qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 Stairlift, Service Lift and Lifting Platform qualifications

This is an opportunity for experienced professionals from across the sector to contribute their expertise and help influence the next generation of industry qualifications.
