A good apprenticeship is about understanding how everything fits together, and ACE Lifts’ approach puts that into practice from day one. They start their apprentices in the manufacturing area, building control panels before they head out on site.

With lift engineering combining mechanical, hydraulic and electronic disciplines, ACE Lifts says the electronic side is often the hardest for trainees to get to grips with. Starting with controllers gives apprentices the chance to learn how to read wiring diagrams and understand what is happening behind the panel before they are asked to fault-find on a live lift.

Llion, now in the third year of his training, has been following this route, building panels in the workshop before taking that knowledge out on site.
